I just read the story by Mary Clare Jalonick about Vilsack and Pelosi desiring to go from 10% to 15% ethanol additive in gasoline, and I nearly fell off of my computer chair. Hey, I'm well aware of the fact that Pelosi has a great deal of French Fries missing out of her Happy Meal(TM), I would imagine Vilsack is neck-and-neck with a whole mess of sausage missing from his polska kebasa---but this is INSANITY! A report out last year helped the average gasoline consumer understand just how much corn you would have to grow in order to supply one---just one---automobile with ethanol to run on for an entire year. The farmers of America would basically have to plant 95% of the acreage of the United States with corn! Now, I will have to go back and look up that news source (which was on the radio) to make sure that was the 10% ethanol-per-gallon equation and not a vehicle running on 100% ethanol, but OMI-GOSH! Vehicle manufacturers are still out on whether ethanol causes damage to the engines, and I need to do some research on that subject although I suspect the answer will be yes, but increasing the content to 15% when you don't know whether or not the 10% is eventually catastrophic is looney. What are we all going to do when our cars and trucks start trailing smoke and an assortment of fluids all the way to the mechanic's garage and we hear them say, "engine's shot"? I would have to say, "Can I sell the remaining vehicle for scrap so I can buy a mule to ride to work!?" I don't know about you, but I don't have that kind of money---unless I decide to live in a tent by the riverbank and eat whatever I can yank out of the water. Oh, absolutely, folks---let's increase the ethanol!
But what about the rest of the vegetable and fruit crops that farmers have to plant to feed the masses? They can't plant them, they have to increase the amount of corn---so where are the vegetable and fruit crops going to be sown? In another country, is that the plan, oh global-minded ones---import the rest of our food from foreign countries, so The People are dependent on another nation to make sure they have more of a selection in their diet than corn? Please, please, PLEASE, let's not go there! America is already doing that with oil, and there is absolutely no reason for us to---we have vast quantities of natural gas and oil that lie untapped because the New Nuts Behind The Wheel have slammed a lid on our oil and gas exploration, drilling and refinement. This whole shenanigan is BOGUS from beginning to end, beloved. Are we all going to be riding horses and mules and bicycles to work and eat imported oranges and pinto beans with a side of rice? Remember, livestock farm cause the horrid greenhouse gas, so there won't be any beef, lamb, pork or chicken on the plate!
